Explain how social and cultural contexts influence the ways newsbrands target their audience.
The news industry has been a part of British tradition and with the sudden change in technology for most newspapers, more are becoming online due to a rapid change in technology and with that happening there is a massive decline in print news. This also means that there is becoming a cultural shift since the audience prefers to having online media and having expectations of entertainment within their websites such as moving pictures, videos or people speaking.
The Daily Mail, has been tackling this cultural shift since they are predominantly a print newspaper and not much of a online newspaper which makes it quite hard for them to adapt to this sudden change in technology. As well as that, they had have a massive decline in print circulation from around 1,200,000 in 2020 to 745,000 in 2023 which shows that online news is becoming more accepted than print newspaper showing that there is a cultural shift. The Daily Mail also used to be a broadsheet newspaper, but due to a shift in culture and "Gen Z" and Millennials becoming more predominant in the media, the Daily Mail has shifted from broadsheet to a mid-market tabloid so that they can appeal to their audience. The Guardian however, is a broadsheet newspaper which sells hard news but they have adapted to this sudden change in culture by becoming a online news source where they have no print news, so that they can target a much younger audience rather than a older audience.
Really good effort Nathaniel! Note the daily mail wasn't a broadsheet though! Maybe a little more development in point 2 and a conclusion needed. But a focused effort - well done!
